The 10th Annual International Antimicrobial Stewardship Conference, jointly sponsored by Washington University in St. Louis Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists will occur on Thursday, May 30 and Friday, May 31, 2019 in St. Louis, MO.

Again, this year the conference will start Thursday morning at 8am with talks from national experts on how to perform stewardship in the ICU setting (Kathleen Chiotos MD), statewide initiatives to improve antibiotic use in rural communities (Mike Smith MD, Bethany Wattles PharmD, and Jyoti Vidwan MD), and the epidemiology of gram negative resistant pathogens in children (Latania Logan MD). New to Thursday morning are breakout sessions focused on specific topics including vancomycin AUC dosing, implementing and using the CDCs Standardized Antimicrobial Administration Ratio (SAAR), and how to provide stewardship education to medical trainees.

Thursday afternoon and Friday will have presentations from more national experts addressing important topics involving inpatient and outpatient stewardship.  Featured speakers include David Hyun MD, Holly Maples PharmD, Jason Pogue PharmD, Julia Szymczak PhD, and Lauri Hicks DO from the CDC. Based on the success observed at IDSA, we will have our first Pro Con Debate on “Procalcitonin should be implemented by all ASPs.” Additionally, we will have oral and poster presentations from meeting participants.  Another great aspect of the conference is the chance to network Thursday evening at the Westin, the host hotel.
