We have some special events planned for IDWeek this year that I want to let you know about in advance. This is the 40th anniversary of PIDS, and we will be celebrating the 40th anniversary all week in San Francisco. In addition to great scientific sessions at IDWeek, I want to call out 3 special events for your participation:

  1. The Stanley A. Plotkin Lectureship in Vaccinology will be held on Friday October 5th from 3:30-4:45 p.m. in Room N23. This is an annual highlight for PIDS in honor of Stanley Plotkin, the founder of PIDS and inspiration to all of us. We are delighted to have Gary Marshall as the speaker this year giving a talk entitled “Vaccine Hesitancy, History and Human Nature.”
  2. The PIDS business meeting will be on Thursday, October 4th from 6:00-6:45 p.m. in Room N23. We want to update you on what PIDS is doing and announce the Society award winners for the Distinguished Physician and Young Investigator Awards, PIDS Fellowship and PIDS-St. Jude Fellowship Awards, Pichichero Family Foundation Research Award, JPIDS-Ralph D. Feigin Apprenticeship Award and more.  Refreshments will be served.
  3. 40th PIDS anniversary special celebration, dinner, and lecture in honor of the contributions of George McCracken and John Nelson will be held on Friday, October 5th beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Union Square Hotel in Continental Ballrooms 1, 2,   Come join your colleagues for an evening of celebration of 40 years as well as the contributions of these two giants in our field. We will have a full reception and dinner, followed by an honorary lecture given by Sarah Long. This is a special time for our society and a new event. Please join us for the full event at a subsidized rate of $75 for individuals or sponsor a full table for 8 participants in honor of one of your mentors for $500. By sponsoring a table, you will help our PID fellows attend this event at no charge, and we will Honor Your Mentor as part of the celebration.  The invitation is below.  Click here to RSVP and purchase tickets by September 19th.

One more thing: we have some swag that will be available for a small donation to the PIDS Foundation. Please visit the PIDS booth (near IDWeek Registration) or pick up your PIDS swag at the dinner celebration.

I hope to see you there!
