Dr. Zaoutis is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Associate Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

JPIDS will be dedicated to perinatal, childhood, and adolescent infectious diseases. The journal will be a high-quality source of original research articles, clinical trial reports, guidelines, and topical reviews with the intention of taking readers from bench to bedside.

“This new journal will represent the spectrum of scientific and clinical work that our profession is engaged with as well as areas of future growth for pediatric infectious diseases,” says Dr. Zaoutis. Dr. Zaoutis is a national leader in the investigation of healthcare associated and fungal infections. At CHOP, he is Associate Director of the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness Research, which promotes research on how to best manage pediatric illnesses, disseminates knowledge gained from research, and partners with other groups to implement best practices to improve the quality of care delivered to children.

Dr. Zaoutis has extensive editorial experience, having served as Associate Editor for Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety; on the editorial boards of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Journal and the Concise Reviews of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (“Blue Pages”), Current Fungal Infection Reports, and Virulence; and as a reviewer for numerous journals. He served as co-editor of two textbooks, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, The Requisites and The Pediatric Infectious Secrets Book. He was co-section editor for pediatric infectious diseases for the Comprehensive Pediatric Hospital Medicine textbook. His publishing experience was honed as Chair of the Publications Committee of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA).

In 2009, Dr. Zaoutis was awarded SHEA’s Pediatric Investigator Award. In 2010, he was recognized as having published one of the top 10 Papers in Medical Mycology at the 50th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. At CHOP, he has been recognized as an outstanding clinician, has been selected on the Faculty Honor Roll, and has won numerous teaching awards. He has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, private foundations, and industry.
