The Fourth Annual International Antimicrobial Stewardship Conference, jointly sponsored by Children's Mercy Hospital & Clinics and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society will occur on June 6-7, 2013. We believe we have another outstanding program with excellent speakers well known in stewardship, surgical site infection prevention and infection control. Again this year we will spend the first day discussing the nuts and bolts of how to develop a program and for the first time will have some insight in the importance of infection control in an antimicrobial stewardship program. The second day will contain outstanding topics including the impact of C. difficile infections and the importance of stewardship in preventing this emerging pediatric infectious disease, methods of using antimicrobial stewardship in preventing surgical site infections, and presentations from participants in the stewardship activities they are performing. Also another great aspect of the conference is the Thursday night dinner that gives everyone a chance to network and enjoy a night of fun and Kansas City barbeque.
